Percussion Ensemble

The HHS Percussion Ensemble is a co-curricular ensemble of the band department and is open to any student that is a percussionist in one of our curricular bands during the school day. This group rehearses before school one morning per week from 7-7:45am and sometimes during additional times/days. Rehearsals start during the month of December and end in May. Besides performing at the spring band concert, the members of the percussion ensemble have opportunities to perform in and attend percussion festivals and master classes in the Twin Cities. In past years, the percussion ensemble has also invited guest artists/clinicians to visit HHS and spend time with the group. The percussion ensemble performs a great variety of percussion literature ranging from standard works to brand new pieces. The percussion ensemble also performs across musical genres and in the past has played samba music, novelty pieces on buckets and chairs, funk pieces that include bass guitar and drumset, and pieces that include standard percussion instruments that are found in every band room. This dynamic and exciting group gives percussionists at HHS an opportunity to perform percussion-only pieces and challenges them to grow as a musician.
